Three Books All Writers of Romance or Erotic Fiction Must Read
So you know the score by now, Wednesday is non-fiction day…
I share stories almost every day, and Wednesday has become my day for sharing non-fictional stuff, a promotional piece about my work, books or other content.
It could have a twist and be a confessional story, where you need to decide is it real or not!
I’ll add a link or two at the end of this post for you to recap if you’re new here. Feel free to share!
This week it’s a quick suggested reading list.
For those of you who love writing erotica, or want to dabble in fictional steam, you need to research and study as you would writing a spy novel or cozy mystery. You might even want to merge the genres.
I’ve read a few suspense romance novels although to be honest not a cozy steamy mystery, but hey there’s always a first time. If it’s what floats your boat it will probably float someone else’s.
Here are three books I strongly recommend. I’d suggest they’re essential reading for all writers, but especially those budding sexy or steamy writers.
First the genius necessity for the steamy writer’s bookcase.
Naughty Words for Nice Writers: A Romance Novel Thesaurus
By Cara Bristol
This book has practical writing advice and almost all the answers when your brain is stuck on what word to use for what er… situation.
Next, it’s not all about the sex. I get more reader feedback on the emotion of a piece than the sweaty messy bits. Readers care, so should you.
The Emotion Thesaurus
By Becca Puglisi and Angela Ackerman
When we’re talking emotion, and flipping ‘eck that’s a vital part of steamy writing, it’s not all in the sighs, gasps and moans, this book has the answers.
Despite the title, my next suggestion is not just for novel writers, it will help you tackle short stories too.
Romancing the Beat: Story Structure for Romance Novels
By Gwen Hayes
I bet there are very few romance writers who don’t have a copy of this one. Invaluable!
I have a really long suggested reading list for writers, and if that interests you let me know and I might just share it on a future post.
I’m always open to reading recommendations. My book case always has space for just one more…
